They sure would like us to believe it is inevitable, i don't fall for that and never have with anything they attach this mantra to.
As for following religion, thats yet another trap, if it had said source, higher self, or consciousness, i would be able to accept that, or even to raise your vibration above these low vibrational beings and their tech, or even stating that stepping into being, rather than human thinking would have been another good antidote i could get behind.
Never forget what it is we really are "under the hood", we are supreme consciousness, seemingly individuated, and seemingly unaware of our true power above all else when coming from this truth and state of original being... that's what will save us from this, if it is indeed even capable of doing what it claims, and on a mass scale as it implies.
